chapter fourteen
1strive after the love; and desire the spiritual gifts, but preferable, that you (PL) shall prophecies say. 2because the one, who speaks in an (unknown) tongue, speaks not to men, but to Hashem; because anyone is not understanding, and he speaks mysteries in the Spirit. 3the one however, who says prophecies, speaks to men to build up, and reproof, and comfort. 4who it speaks in a tongue, that (one) built up self alone; and the (one), who says prophecies, builds up the kehile. 5and I want, that you (PL) shall all speak with tongues, however further, that you (PL) shall prophecies say; and greater is the (one), who says prophecies, than the (one), who speaks in tongues, unless that he shall also interpret, so that the kehile shall receive edification. 6and now, brothers, when I shall come to you (PL), speaking in tongues, what will I you (PL) (thereby) help, if I will not speak to you (PL), whether through a revelation, or through knowledge, or with prophecy, or teaching? 7yes, even the non living things, which issue a sound, shall it be the flute or the harp, when they make not any distinction in the sounds, how then will one recognize, what one plays on the flute or harp. 8because when the trumpet shall give an unclear sound, who will themselves prepare for the battle? 9and also thus you (PL), when you (PL) shall not give through the tongue a easily understood word, how then will one know, what it being spoken? you (PL) will after all speak (simply) into the air. 10are there who knows how many kinds of voices in the world, and any is not without a sense. 11when therefore I know not the meaning of the voice, will I be for the speaker a foreigner, and the speaker will for me be a foreigner. 12also thus you (PL), because you (PL) are passionate in this way after spiritual gifts, seek, that you (PL) shall have an abundance for the edification of the kehile. 13therefore shall the one, who speaks in a tongue, prayer do, that he shall interpret. 14because if I am praying in a tongue, is my spirit praying, my understanding however remains without fruit. 15how then shall it be? I will prayer do with the spirit, and will also prayer do with the understanding; I will sing with the spirit, and will also sing with the understanding. 16because when you (SG) make a blessing with the Spirit, how will the one, who occupies the place of of a not learned, say Amen on your blessing? he knows after all not what you (SG) say. 17because you (SG) make actually a blessing as it is proper to be, but the other is not edified. 18I thank Hashem, that I speak with tongues more than you (PL) all; 19but in the kehile want I (rather) speak five words with my understanding, so that I shall also others teach, than ten thousand words in an (unknown) tongue.
20brothers, be not any children with the understanding; but what relates to evil be nursing infants, with the understanding however adult (men). 21in the Torah stands written: with other tongues and with other lips will I speak to the this people; and even so will they me not hear, says the L-rd (G-d). (Yeshayah 28, 11-12.) 22so around are (already) the tongues as a sign, not to the believers, but to the unbelievers; the prophecy (Acts 11:28) however is not for the unbelievers, but for those, who believe. 23when therefore the whole kehile gathered itself, and all speak in tongues, and there come into common people or unbelievers, (question) will they then not say, that you (PL) are crazy? 24when however everyone says prophecies, and there comes into (kehile) someone an unbeliever or a common person, becomes he by all rebuked, by all (rightly) judged; 25the secret things of his heart are revealed; and so around, falling on the face, will he himself worship to Hashem, confessing making, that Hashem is in truth among you (PL).
26what then is it, brothers? when you (PL) gather you (PL), has every one a psalm, a teaching, a revelation, a tongue, an interpretation; shall all done to be to build up. 27if someone wants speak with a tongue, shall it be two fold, or at most three fold, and one after the other; and one shall interpret; 28when however there is found not any interpreter, shall there (be) silence in the kehile; and speak to themselves and to Hashem. 29prophets however should speak two or three, and the others should judge. 30and when it will something revealed to be to an other, who sits (there), shall the first be silent. 31because you (PL) can all prophecies say, one after other, in order that all shall learn and all consoled to be; 32and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets; 33because Hashem is not any G-d of confusion, but of peace. as in all kehiles of the saints.
34thus shall the (non-prophetess Acts 21:9) women be silent in the kehiles; because they have not any authority to speak, but should be subordinate, just as as also the Torah says. 35and if they want something to learn, shall they ask their own husbands at home; because it is a shame for a woman to speak in the kehile. 36what? is Hashem's word from you (PL) gone out? or is did it only to you (PL) alone come?
37if someone thinks, that he is a prophet or endowed with Spirit, shall he recognize (in that), what I write to you (PL), that it is the the L-rd's commandment. 38if however someone know it not, shall he not know (be ignorant).
39therefore, brothers of mine, desire to speak prophecies, and forbid not to speak with tongues. 40all however shall done to be decently and in order.
